Prof Tonnie Iredia is a Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, (NIPR); the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE); the Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM) and the Society for Peace Studies & Practice (SPSP).
Prof Tonnie was the Head of NTA’s news coverage team in old Bendel State for Nigeria’s Presidential elections 1979 & 1983. He was posted by the Federal Government from NTA to serve as Director of Public Affairs, National Electoral Commission (NEC) 1987-1993.
Prof Tonnie was the officer stopped by government from continuing to display the results of the June 12, 1993 Presidential elections. He seconded by Nigeria to the Independent Elections Commission of Liberia (IECOM) in 1997 as technical expert on the management of electoral information. He was appointed by ECOWAS as Coordinator of Political Broadcasts for the first post-civil war elections in Liberia 1997.
Prof Tonnie was Director General, National Orientation Agency (NOA) between 2002 and 2003. Similarly, he was Director General, Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) between 2003 and 2008. He has been an international election observer since 2008.
